Futures Worth Fighting For. June 23: Madison Moore, Raquel Willis and More in Conversation

Queer Icons + Queer Futurity

Event: June 23, 2022, 7:00-8:30 PM

Join us on June 23rd for a night of possibility, joy and conversation celebrating the future of queer community with a few of this generation’s queer icons including Madison Moore, Kyle Ferari Muñoz, Raquel Willis, and more!

2022 is a time of wild disparities; in the U.S., gender pronouns are perceptively more expansive than ever, queer visibility in popular culture is at an all time high, and “same-sex” marriage has been legal in all fifty states for seven years. Yet, LGBTQIA+ existence is facing a resurgence of targeted animosity in the courts, the most visible and vulnerable members of our community still face violence for living as their authentic selves, and international realities are becoming ever more dire.

How do we talk about the future and possibilities for sustaining queer community based in care, accountability, learning, pleasure, and celebration? How do we as queer community hold and make space for the most vulnerable of us, not as a task or chore, but as a central facet of our collective liberation and joy? And what role can queer artists play in community and the broader culture?

These particular queer Icons are at the forefront of powerfully engaging and sharing their lived realities, opening portals to futures of queer resilience.

The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art is intent on catalyzing culture change, providing sanctuary, and embracing the power of the arts to inspire, explore, and foster understanding of the rich diversity of LGBTQIA+ experiences, and we are honored to host these Queer Icons.
